I love west village, who doesn't? It's one of those New York City neighbourhoods that transforms the city into a beautiful picturesque scene from a novel. Magnificent brownstones , delicious restaurants and surprisingly (for New York) few cars and people , on a good day. I woke up early this morning and left my Gramercy apartment and was off to West Village.
I usually go there for dinner or lunch. A few notable places I'll mention if you ever find your self in NYC, walking along Greenwich, I recommend you venture to Rosemary's or The Meatball Shoppe, among a laundry list of other great places but I'll save all my favorite spots of New York for another post.
today, my purpose was not for pleasure but rather purpose. As I walked down fifth avenue towards Washington Sq Park I was planning in my head my mission. The mission you wonder? To do something I've never done in WV before. Now I'm sure if you live in New York or have ever visited the city and have a iPhone, blackberry, samsung galaxy , camera or any other picture making device then you have gone to West Village and captured at least one image. I, however, haven't. Which you may find peculiar seeing as I'm a photographer and love taking pictures. But the thing is, when it comes to photography, at least in my case, I'm always planning and thinking of new photo series that I'd need more than 24/7 to get it all done.
At any rate, I walked around for two hours going up and down streets that I was familiar with and some that I never knew existed. Got into my photographic groove and started snapping away. I loved it and know that I only managed to capture a fraction of what West Village has to offer photographically and maybe that's why my camera has always stayed in my pocket in this area of the city.
The only pit I did notice however was that a lot of people took eye of my large DSLR camera with a 24mm-105mm lens attached to the end; I'll be honest, it's not subtle. But in a tourist driven city such as this, camera are everywhere, so I refused to let the handful of stares stop me.
Since this was really just an experiment and testing the waters of doing a project such as this is still in the beginning stages I've chosen not to share any images , for now. All the more reason to check back, once it have a clean edit It'll be posted.
Until Next Time,
JJ
